Letter from IBAF President Riccardo Fraccari

   Published on: January 4, 2010

Dear Presidents and friends,
The 6th of December 2009 marked a new era for the IBAF.
Minutes after being elected, I told to all of the delegates and guests to the IBAF Congress that I wanted the International Federation to really become the home of the member Federations.
The Executive and I want every Federation to participate in IBAF activities and we want them to share our view. This is the only way we have to achieve our goals.
With the recent changes to the Olympic program, a need for restructuring, and new revenue sources found, the international game is at a crossroads. The choices and decisions of the new Executive and myself will have far reaching effects on the shape and visibility of the organization.
However, this predicament highlights the need to closely work together with all those involved, and to re-unite our strong community to work as a team including the relationship with professional baseball bodies. I believe that their presence will play an important role in our community and could greatly contribute to international baseball.
During the congress I spoke of a "home run" we need to hit. We are baseball people and we understand the emotion a player feels when he hits a walk off home run, winning a game for his team in a crowded ball park. Still, every player who has starred in baseball knows that he wouldn't have been allowed the chance of making something important if a team hadn't supported him. In baseball, nobody wins alone. And my term in the chair of President of the International Federation will entirely follow this way: I am not going to accomplish anything on my own, without the support of the Executive and the support of the member Federations.
Challenges are ahead of us but I am confident that with support from all of you and my new team, we can overcome this difficult moment and attain our significant goal of re-constructing the IBAF and establishing a new baseball society where each of you play an integral role.
We may have a tough term, at least in the early months. We won't be counting on IOC funding and this will force us to cut costs.
We are going to change a lot. We are going to re organize the office in Lausanne, make everything more transparent. We are going to start a new relation with President Rogge and the IOC Executive
Thank you to all that have supported the IBAF and myself and it is my hope that your involvement and support will be also extended to the future IBAF. I encourage all of you to voice your opinion as to our future. Your thoughts, comments and suggestions are always welcomed.
As your new President, let me say that I will spend every single drop of energy I have in myself for the sake of IBAF and baseball
On behalf of the whole IBAF Executive Committee I wish everybody a peaceful Merry Christmas and successful New Year 2010

Riccardo Fraccari
IBAF President
